Who we are
Yarcoo is a dating app operated by Mehrdad Nadimi, an individual based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. You can reach us at hello@yarcoo.com.
What we collect
- Your phone number. It's how you sign in — we send a one-time code to it. We don't collect a password, and we don't currently ask for an email address inside the app.
- Your profile. Display name, date of birth, gender, who you're looking for, height, the city you enter as free text, interests, relationship goal, prompt answers, and your age-range preferences.
- Your photos. Stored in our hosting provider's file storage and shown to other members of the app.
- Your activity in the app. The daily batch of profiles you're shown, who you like, who you match with, and when you last read a conversation.
- Your messages. Messages you exchange with matches are stored on our servers so they're there when you reopen the app. They are not end-to-end encrypted, and we can access them when investigating a report.
- Reports and moderation records. If you report someone or are reported, we keep the report, the reason, and what we did about it. If you block someone, we store that too.
- Push notification tokens, if you allow notifications.
- Your email address, if you join the waitlist on this website — used only to invite you to the app.
What we don't collect
We do not collect your precise location. The city on your profile is text you type in yourself; the app does not read your device's GPS. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not run third-party advertising.
Who can see what
Your profile and photos are visible to other signed-in members. Your phone number is never shown to other members. Messages are visible to you, the person you matched with, and to us when we're investigating a report.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run the app, and don't sell or share your data beyond them:
- Supabase — our database, file storage, and sign-in provider. Your profile, photos, messages, and activity are stored on Supabase's infrastructure, hosted in the United States (not Canada).
- Our SMS provider, via Supabase Auth — delivers the one-time code when you sign in with your phone number.
- Expo — delivers push notifications if you enable them.
- Our web host — stores the email address you enter on the waitlist on this site.
How long we keep it
We keep your profile, photos, and messages for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account (see below), that data — along with your likes, matches, reports, and blocks — is deleted immediately. A moderation action taken against your account may remain in our internal logs after deletion, but it's no longer linked to your name, phone number, or profile. If you join the waitlist on this site, we keep your email until we invite you or you ask us to remove it.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from Settings → Delete Account inside the app. After you confirm, we permanently delete your photos from storage and delete your account, which immediately and irreversibly removes your profile, likes, matches, messages, reports, and blocks. There is no recovery period — once confirmed, it can't be undone.
Your rights
As a Canadian resident, you have rights under PIPEDA to access and correct the personal information we hold about you — email hello@yarcoo.com — and to complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you're not satisfied with our response. Yarcoo is currently invite-only in Toronto and we don't offer the service outside Canada, so we don't take on obligations under the EU's GDPR.
Age requirement
Yarcoo is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to create a profile.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top and, for material changes, tell you in the app.
